Solstice Xolos (prefix SoXo) strives to produce miniature and standard sized Xoloitzcuintli that are competetive in AKC and UKC Conformation events, versatile enough to compete in various performance sports, and confident and stable to thrive in the home as companions. All SoXo dogs act as breed ambassadors, attending events such as Meet the Breed and going to shows (even when not entered) to interact with the public and give us the chance to raise awareness and promote preservation of the breed. We strive to promote health testing that goes beyond CHIC requirements, and partake in various studies, such as the Dog Aging Project, to make sure Xolos maintain a presence in the dog world not just among dog fanciers, but among pet owners as well.

All Solsitice Xolos compete in conformation and performance sports. Xoloitzcuintli are very much "jack of all trades, master of none" in terms of performance. They're unlikely to ever outcompete dogs who are purposefully bred for particular sports, but they can hold their own in many things, so long as their owners encourage them and train them appropriately. They are intelligent, indepedent thinking dogs with a strong sense of self-preservation, who will always ask "what's in it for me?" when training. This can make them a challenging breed to work with, but doesn't lessen their qualities as wonderful, loyal, and loving companions, who are simply eager to do things with their loved ones. Ours compete in agility, scent-work, trick dog, rally, obedience, and Fast CAT. Each dog has different aptitudes for different sports, so we try them all with everything, and then pursue whichever activity they enjoy more. All of our Xolos compete in the show ring, and we are happy to place both coated and hairless Xolos in show homes. 

Puppies are raised employing Puppy Culture and AviDog protocols, as well as started on basic obedience before going home. All puppies are placed as pets first and foremost, so we do not differ cost in show quality vs pet quality dogs. All are placed on AKC limited registration, with the option for full registration for puppies who are show quality with owners who wish to show them. We offer a rotation of different high quality kibbles and wet foods to all of our dogs, to help prepare puppies for whichever diet their new owners ultimately prefer to use. Our mindset is that none of the puppies we produce should require special supplements or very strict diets to thrive, and adhere to the "feed the dog in front of you" philosophy.
