The Tea Time Litter

The Tea Time litter (Vermy x Taika) is due next week, likely Wednesday the 13th. Taika went in for her x-ray last Tuesday and we confirmed that there are 7 puppies clearly present. All seven that we saw are the same size, and an appropriate size for their age. This is important, because it tells me that we're expecting a natural whelping and not anticipating a c-section being necessary. Of course it's always important to be prepared, just in case, so the vets are on standby.

My waitlist for this highly anticipated litter is VERY full. However, most people are very particular about whether they want a male or female, hairless or coated, and there's no telling what combinations of those traits we're going to end up with. I know all the puppies will be either black or sable (bronze), with or without a black  mask on the sable, and many will have minimal white spotting (white toes, tail tips, spots on chests/foreheads possible.) Statistically each puppy has a 2/3 chance of being hairless and 1/3 chance of being coated, and of course a 50/50 chance of being male or female.

The whelping room is set up and Taika is getting reacquainted with the whelping box right now. We're all set, the nanny cam is fixed on the box, and now it's just a matter of waiting. I'm checking Taika's temperature every 12 hours now, as a sudden drop to 98 or lower will indicate impending labor.

I'll update once the puppies are on the ground!
